I am participating in a juried art show this weekend, with 39 talented local artists from the Federation Canadian Artists. I'd love to have you drop by for a visit - or give me a call or message at 403.863.1855 to arrange a studio visit.
Show runs November 2, 2013, 10 AM to 4 PM at the Haysboro Community Centre, 1204 - 89 Ave SE Calgary AB
"Hay Bale Hill" Watercolour on Yupo, Framed 31 x 11” $600
A good friend Sheila Mitchell and I had finished a wonderful day of painting and were scooting home to our families at the end of the day when I spotted this field of hay bales. There was only time to do a 'drive-by shooting' as we like to call it, but the photo certainly provided me with enough information to complete the painting in my studio at home.
"Field Path' Watercolour on Yupo. Framed 15 x 13” $340
I wanted to paint some scenes west of Calgary and incorporate winter into the image. I didn't have to go far to find country in Calgary! Just outside the city limit on the Trans Canada Highway, I pulled into a small neighbourhood and found everything I was looking for - grasses, trees, fields, hills, mountains sky! As you can see, it was a very warm winter, just a hint of snow in the still deep fall grasses.
"Foothills Field" on Yupo, Framed 19 x 12” $400
A snowy path lead me toward a small farm house in the distance. Yes, I wondered who might live there!
"Stand of Trees" Watercolour on Yupo, Framed 34 x 11” $650
A weekend at Diamond Willow Artisan Retreat, in Turner Valley, with the inspiring host, Pat Lothrop, was brilliantly sunny and romantically colourful. Fall in hay county is my 'comfort food' in painting!
This photo roughly shows the framing - once the painting is under glass, its hard to photograph without glare.
"Winter Pond" Watercolour on Yupo, Framed 9 x 7” $110
A small creek flowing into a little pond, with trees, background hills - all good…… Except the reference photo was from a particularly grey, nondescript time of year. Using blues and purples on white Yupo paper, a lovely wintery scene emerged!
